Help Make Sunshine Jones’ Next Album!

Sunshine Jones is looking to raise funds for his next full length release.

Currently Sunshine is in the studio working on 2 albums (one for King Street and one for Treehouse)
4 ep’s (the official single releases for this fall on Treehouse Muzique) and
6 remixes 4 Remixes (two down, four ta go!)

We thought the idea of a community supported album was a beautiful thing, and it’s making strides toward a workable budget every day and you can help by spreading the word, and by contributing something to the budget as well as your energy and light in the process.

There are gifts and lots of love in return for your contribution:
• a sidebar to show you the fundraising progress
• a demographic report of where the contributions are coming from
• a preview of recent work by Sunshine
• a cute little progress notebook, ecards you can send out to your friends to let them know about the project
• banners and placards for your web site
• a set of frequently asked questions to help you clarify what the hell Sunshine’s thinking
• a member’s only back end section to have a look at the proposed tracks, and (eventually) listen to the progress of the album as it takes shape

The Pinches: Love You Inside Out - Sunshine’s Hustle Up Remix

Cole Medina busted out a fantastic 95bpm re edit of “Love You Inside Out.” It blew me away, but being 95bpm I couldn’t use it in my DJ Set. So I scored the parts and did a Hustle Up Remix at 110 So I can spin it out, and get down with you.

Guess who’s number one on Doc Martin’s Chart?

Yep. Sunshine Jones’ track ‘It’s all in my head’ rests lightly on top of one of our all time, hands down, favorite DJ’s chart this month. What a great track, and how amazing that Doc is busting it out, and chosen to release it on the Sublevel Sampler Volume 4. Yaay for teamwork!

The Halifax Classics Summer 2008 - Halifax, Nova Scotia

Also there’s a little reunion party coming together in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Nick Oliver and his crew on the easternmost point of our civilized continent are gathering their hearts and heads to produce a fantastic event on August 2nd 2008 where many of the artists who performed there back in the days of hay are getting back together to get down. We’re really excited about this party!

Four drummers and one cosmic space explorer produced this rhythm in 1970. Each drummer focused on a single element of the drum kit. Percussion heavy fusion, but a beloved sample resource for 4 on the floor lovers everywhere.

Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Boogie Back

A slow and dirty jam from the Roy Ayers Ubiquity album Change Up the Groove. Laid down in 1974 by drummer Bernard “Pretty” Purdy. The shuffle can be lifted and used in a different manner, or looped as a polyrhythm alone. The kick, hat and snare are priceless resources and sound exquisite.

Bobby Byrd - Hot Pants

Produced by James Brown in 1971, Hot Pants became a James Brown Classic. Bobby was the original bandleader of the famous flames, and remained James Brown’s partner and friend for many years. This loop has been sampled, used, abused and demolished by everyone from Public Enemy, Eric B and Rakim, to Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock. Presented here from vinyl, in it’s original pitch and time.

The Winstons - Amen Brother

Performed by G.C. Coleman, Amen, Brother was the b-side of the Winstons’ 1969 hit Color Him Father, which won a Grammy as R&B song of the year. The break then slipped into history as a forgotten break. Revived in the 80’s and again in the 90’s, this loop single handedly drove hip hop harder, moved the rave higher, and literally invented acid jazz, break beat, and drum and bass.
