Re Edit Your Head Off

I wanna kiss you all over ep

Heart aches, headspace, confusion, fear, hassle, tussle, nightmares, and sweet kisses… it’s been a busy week. I am more than ready to head out to Seattle for a serious get down tonight. But wherever I go, whatever I do, however I hurt, or however loud I’m laughing… it’s true baby, I do. I just wanna kiss you all over, and over again…

New mini re edit ep out now in the Treehouse Muzique shop! Go check it out »

Sunshine Jones: Wake up and make love with me

New single out now in the shop
An attack on Ian Dury and the Blockheads with a TB-303 and a Juno-60. Nothing more, nothing less.

Only You – Sunshine Jones’ Yazoo Re Work

A little something I did for the queen of my heart. Reworked, re syncopated so it’s easier to mix. 120 bpm and to your head…

Faded Love on your Flowers EP Out Now

Two new Revisions, and two new Dubs

Faded Flowers – Sunshine’s revision
Classique Shriekback, from the album Oil and Gold. Twisted into shape, counting out at a modern 118 bpm. Live drums, SH-101 bassline, and a Juno-6 arpeggiate throwing the deep dark mood right into the middle of the dance floor.

Faded Flowers – Sunshine’s revision instrumental
For the shy, or thoughtful. Maybe more useful, but there’s no vocals. Not one.

Love on your side – Sunshine’s Revisionist Version
I never thought I’d see the day when I would return to anything the Thompson Twins ever did or said, but here it is… syncopated to a sturdy 120 bpm with a 303 bassline (no, not a tweaky one, just the bass son, just the bass) and a CR-8000 compurhythm to rock with you. Laugh, cry, dance and learn.

Love on your side – Sunshine’s Revisionist Instrumental Version
A dub. Yes indeed. No actual vocals, and only a tiny loop from the original, but there’s those periodic vocals that fall into the delay and carry on longer and louder than they should.

Out now, exclusively in the Treehouse Muzique Digital Shop
Yeaaah!

Sexy Dream Miracles EP Out Now

Three new Re Edits, well…
one re edit/remix and two re edits from Sunshine Jones

You Sexy Thing – Sunshine Jones Re Edit
Re looped, syncopated to 114 bpm, and re edited to be just a little bit more fun.
Dreams – Sunshine Jones Re Edit
Syncopated to 118 bpm, intro extended, outro extended, a kick and some hats, otherwise it’s the pure mac (with a couple of unpleasant artifacts.)
Miracles – Sunshine’s Revisionist Version
A complete rework of Starships’ masterpiece. Looped, drawn out, tripped out, and syncopated to 118 bpm.

Out now, exclusively in the Treehouse Muzique Digital Shop
Yeaaah!

Sunshine Jones: Chicago

A long awaited return to Chicago…
January 24th 2009

Talk is cheap!

There’s discussion about something in Denver, a date or two with Chuck Love and Sunshine, heading off to Europe again. Humble dates in Barçelona, London, Stockholm, Berlin and beyond. It’s a pipe dream at the moment, but an exciting one just the same. And we’re always on the look out for something back in Manhattan… c’mon!

Things to get excited about:

Kiko Navarro – Soñando Contigo – Sunshine Jones Extended Remix

After years of playing it in his DJ set, Sunshine Jones has remixed the Kiko Navarro classic Soñando Contigo.

A part of a remix exchange with Kiko in return for a couple of remixes for Treehouse Muzique and forthcoming full releases of some of the projects in the Muzique section.

This mix is slated for inclusion on an upcoming collection of Kiko Navarro tracks with a companion remix collection and some singles as well.

Sunshine is also remixing O-yah as well. Can’t wait to hear it!

You can preview this mix in the Muzique shop now! Check it out. Enjoy!

Love You Inside Out – Sunshine Jones Remix – The Pinches Re Edit

Cole Medina send us a re edit of the classic Bee Gees jam “Love You Inside Out” which blew my mind. I’ve always loved the intro and first couple lines of that song… but then… well, you know how disco can be sometimes right? Right.

Anyway, his re edit was top shelf, but it was only 95 beats per minute. I wanna play it!

So I got the parts and remixed the re edit and here it is:
Love You Inside Out – Sunshine’s Hustle Up Remix (of the Re edit)

Also there’s a little reunion party coming together in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Nick Oliver and his crew on the easternmost point of our civilized continent are gathering their hearts and heads to produce a fantastic event on August 2nd 2008 where many of the artists who performed there back in the days of hay are getting back together to get down. We’re really excited about this party!

Sunshine Jones’ Sunday Soul celebrates her 3 year anniversary!

“Thank you so much for the last three years. Sunday Soul began as a sort of a seed planting mission, an afternoon interview program where people would come over to my studio and talk with me for a few hours about music, house music, history, and then play some music which inspired them. Originally I didn’t feel the need to mix records because I was already doing a thursday night broadcast dedicated to new music, mixing, and various tussles… when I let go of that program to make room for a dear friend’s program, I began to play house on Sunday Soul. It was also tough to convince people to come talk to me… So sunday night became a refuge for me.

Turns out, over the last three years, Sunday Soul has revived my interest and love of electronic music in the most surprising ways. From the challenge of developing a weekly theme and sticking to it, flyers, promotion, multitasking, scheduling, and converting the broadcast into a moveable feast where we can get down from a rooftop in washington DC, the basement of a club in Manhattan, a warm sunny deck in San Francisco, or a terrace in Los Angeles… I’ve learned that anything is possible, and it’s a pleasure to devote myself to new sounds, personal mixing, and take the ultimate risks of singing, speaking, chanting, re editing on the fly, and making the music my own.”

Recently Sunshine Jones had a chance to talk with writer Terry Matthews about house music, current events, the distant past, and how we see the possibilities of the future. The result is this month’s 5 Magazine cover interview.

In further discussion, Terry said:

“When the pages rolled off my printer, my partner Czarina was transfixed by it. Maybe we’re just jaded, but I don’t think we’re the only ones to feel that way. We distribute quite a few at the clubs here, and Terry Hunter just told me he saw a strange sight — people at this deep southside place walking out at the end of the night, all with their heads down and their noses buried in it. People don’t walk out of a club reading — usually, it’s rolled up in their purse or back pocket. That’s been the response so far.”

We couldn’t be more delighted with this article, and it stands as the best interview we’ve seen of Sunshine to date (and that’s really saying something.) This interview plus last year’s Blues and Soul five star review of ‘Seven Tracks in Seven Days’ give us hope, and give us courage. Thank you.

Download your copy of the 5 Magazine article here or pick up a copy in your favorite discothéque today.

… and if you got something to say, I s’pose you could always just say it.

Sunshine Jones January 2008 Chart

Sunshine Jones has posted a january 2008 chart on his journal. A collection of Sunday Soul and Live DJ/ Performance tracks which have made it happen for him already this year.

Also check out Sunshine’s 2007 year end heady, review/top 30

Year’s End Mentionables

Sunshine Jones has been included in MixMag‘s top 50 albums of 2007! Number 32 to be precise. We were very surprised, and welcome this praise with a reciprocal warmth and delight.

Also, Sonic-O has named Sunshine’s ‘Seven Tracks in Seven Days’ album one of the year’s top 5 albums by a non-solo electronic artist. The electronic part we understand, but the non solo part is a bit baffling, but we’re thankful just the same.

Lots of chart activity throughout the year, and it’s lovely to see Sunshine’s electronic solo work being included in the year’s summaries.

Sunshine Jones – December Guest on Listen NYC

Sunshine Jones has been invited to be the December guest for the ListenNYC mixtape sessions. So he has laid down a heady, reckless journey for your head, and your heart. After taking it all much too seriously, Sunshine simply pressed record and played until he felt he’d done what he came to do. An exercise in letting go… No hassle, just pure joy and love of music, loops, re loops, filters, effects and live vocals. More…

Boutique: Imperial DUB Recordings

As Treehouse Muzique prepare for their official launch, making dubs, re edits, and b-sides for the singles to be released next year, we thought it was a good idea to make the past a part of the present for you.

Imperial DUB Recordings (and soon Vintage Dubtribe Sound System) material is now available in the store. Click the Muzique link in our menu and then visit the Boutique for imperial DUB. The music there is in its original form, mastered from the source recordings, and printed as high quality 320 kbps mp3 files. We’re packed them up as EP’s and so for a mere $3.49 you get the entire release.

Plans are to continue to re release our entire catalog of available titles, with the exception of full length CD’s (which you can get on iTunes, and Beatport) and selected titles which IDR no longer have the rights to. In addition, we’re working hard on a Dubtribe boutique as well, where there will be live versions, demos, and music which we think should be revived, or maintained for you. Enjoy!

New T-shirts and bags and stuff and junk…

Now you can score unique T-shirts, badges and bags designed by us, and in most cases actually worn, adorned and carried by us.
Know those weird t-shirt sunshine keeps showing up in?
Same stuff.
Check it out right here.

Alchemy РSunshine Jones and Jen̦

San Francisco Legend DJ Jenö (Wicked, Back2Back, Noise from the Void) and Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe Sound System, Treehouse Muzique, Sunday Soul) have agreed upon two gigs together this year. December 14th at LOVE in New York City, and December 15th ay Club 5 in Washington DC. Two evenings of Alchemy, Belle ame electronique and Noizy Mischief. Definitely not to be missed.

Tiger Stripes – Manuel Tur Remixes

Hisa at King Street has offered Tiger Stripes a chance to remix anything he wants off of Seven Tracks in Seven Days. The choice turned out to be If you wouldn’t mind. Can’t wait to hear it. To complete a remix 12″ single, Manuel Tur has accepted our offer of a remix exchange. Manuel will remix something he loves from the album, and in return Sunshine will remix something for his forthcoming album on Freerange. Looks like a very interesting single is in the works at King Street!

This is the new theme for Treehouse Muzique. In essence the idea was to move away from a blog style theme and into a more of a magazine type of design. We wanted specific functions which could be modified via the backend, and features which were image heavy, and updatable as needed.

How it works

There are seven instances of the WordPress loop in the index page. Two in the sidebar where space is reserved for things like upcoming events, sunday soul broadcasts, records released on other labels, tours, and recent posts on the bulliet board.

There are four loops across the bottom of the main page which are designated as space to present the most recent music added to the store and/or released on other labels. This only appears on the index, and the images are the links to the locations of the content. The php titles have been removed and must be added manually within each post to create the image up look and feel.

Finally, the last loop is this container here. While not a lot of essay writing is going to happen at Treehouse Muzique, there is a section of essays called subterfuge which was a destination for thoughts about parties, tours, socialism, political thinking and other musing. But this didn’t seem in keeping with the basic idea that Treehouse Muzique will be music driven and not at all served up via the cult of personality as have been our efforts in the past.

“The former Dubtribe Sound System front man steps into the solo spotlight with a richly melodic opus for New York’s finest purveyor of soulful house. It’s a wonderful marriage with the San Franciscan wearing his inspirations for all to see. Seven Tracks In Seven Days is a blissful affair epitomised by the chilled house of We Are Free, a beautifully delivered soul-drenched song, with spiritual intonations that hark back to the halcyon days of the Warehouse and Frankie Knuckles. While the meandering ‘If You Wouldn’t Mind’ continues the retro ambiance with Mr Fingers-styled acid basslines. Reference points are many, with the influences of Jamie Principle and Knuckles bubbling beneath the surface of I Believe, while I Surrender immediately draws to mind strings reminiscent of Detroit finest techno forefathers oozes of the city’s funkier elements with layered keys and shimmering riffs. Never a dull moment with less-most-definitely-more as subtle loops, warm strings and sparse vocal snippets combine on a debut that is as contemporary as it is timeless.”
